Windows 10 Start Menu Search Not Working [Solved]

One must love to use it again and again. I have been using Windows 10 from the past few months and it was working fine. But, from few days Windows 10 start menu search not working.

When I started searching anything on the start menu, the search animation displayed but I won’t get any result. Other functions were working perfectly except for the searching. If you are facing a problem like this, then follow the below procedures to fix it.

#1. Restart Windows Explorer

If you are facing any problem in Windows, then simply restart your computer. This is the easiest solution to fix minor problems for beginners. Also restarting Windows Explorer could solve this issue.

Right-click on the start button and choose Task Manager. Now search for Windows Explore. Click on it and press the “Restart” button. That’s it.

#2. Check Windows Search Service

Windows Search Service is a system service which is used for searching. It runs automatically on the system startup. If it is not running, that means Windows 10 start menu search is not working. Check whether the service is running or not. If it is not running, then you can easily restart it again.

Press “Win + R” to Run command window and type services.msc and press the Enter button to open the Services window.

In here, search for “Windows Search” and see if it is running or not. If the service is running, then there is a “Running” status in the Status column. If the service is not running, right-click on the service and choose the “Properties” option.

In the properties window, click on “Start” button to start the service and change the Startup type to “Automatic“. Now click on “OK” button to save the settings.

#3. Rebuild Indexing

Still Windows 10 Start menu search not working? If the above two methods don’t work for you, you need to rebuild indexing. Windows indexing option indexes your computer data which is needed for searching.

1) Right-click on Start button and select Control Panel.

2) Select large or small icons under “view by“.

3) Then click on “Indexing Options” and when the menu opens, click on the “Advanced” button.

4) Just click on “Rebuild” button and confirm the dialogue box for re-indexing your data.
